As a woman who drove for years cross country alone, I will honestly tell you I always have a weapon with me. Yes, I know I could go straight to jail in some states. There were times when I had no choice but to get out of my truck late at night. A tire knocker is no protection. I have a tee-shirt that says “Armed and Dangerous”. Yes, I carry. Always have and always will. I don’t think I should be the only one who does not have a weapon. It is a shame that our industry is one of the most dangerous professions. No longer can we stop to help someone for concern about being attacked. No longer is it wise to stop to have coffee with a driver you don’t know. We have to be on the alert 24/7. In 1980 when I started driving it was fun. No more. I loved the freedom of running cross country, but the dangers of attack or assault are high. I can not depend on law enforcement to protect me at 3:00 a.m. when I have to drop and hook trailers in a dangerous place. Yes, I carry. Always have, always will.

If I can have a loaded handgun, in or out of sight, in my personal car, as an extention of my home, then what of my “home” on the road? If I have a permit to carry, concealed, what should it matter if I am in my car or my semi? Those “bad apples” out there also drive personal vehicles. Will it matter if they are in a bib rig or thier personal vehicle when they decide to “open up”?
I say the 2nd Amendment is in violation here, and DOT needs to be challenged!

anybody here know of a good site to find more info on truck driving jobs in chicago? I\’ve got this site bookmarked and im gonna keep checking it out, but i still would like to find a site that covers truck driving jobs in chicago a little more thoroughly..thanks

That is the point I was trying to make in some of my articles! Although I wish drivers could carry protection, the way so many of them act out there, it could be a blood bath!!!!

i feel that cdl drivers should be allowed to carry a gun
in the truch that they are driving. there should be some
required instruction/testing through the m/v dept. in
their home state in conjunction with cdl testing that
covers the legalities of carrying/using a gun as a cdl
driver. a major deterrent to illegal firearm related acts
would be for such acts to be prosecutable at the
federal level throgh the u.s. dot and the state the crime took place in.

I FEEL THAT CDL DRIVERS SHOULD BE ALLOWED
TO CARRY A GUN IN THEIR TRUCK.THERE SHOULD
BE A REGUIRED MINIMAL AMOUNT OF COURSEWOK/TESTING THROUGH THE DRIVERS HOME STATE IN CONJUCTION WITH THEIR CDL
LICENCING THAT INFORMS THE DRIVER OF THE LEGALITIES/DO’S AND DON’TS PERTAINING TO THE USE OF A HANDGUN BY A TRUCKER. ILLEGAL ACTS
COULD BE PROCECUTED AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL.
THAT WOULD BE A MAJOR DETERRENT TO MISUSE
OF THE RIGHT TO CARRY A GUN ONBOARD A TRUCK.

I just want to say I hope the law never changes on the gun law for trucks. Ihave been driving for 22yrs and never been more ashamed of being a truck driver than I am now. There is so much hate among drivers ,its like a bunch of kids driving trucks. I have always carried one I may get cought some day but I will never have to worry about my safety while a way from home.I would just like to say to some of the drivers out there . "GROW UP" ||||||| keep up the good work you do for the drivers . Thanks.

How would you interpret that law?
More importantly, how do the local law enforcement interpret that?
That was the concern I had with this topic. I’ve seen drivers arrested for their possession of a fire arm. It appears that law enforcement applies their own interpretation when the occasion occurs.( depending on what state , city, county, you’re in)
