Hi Mike:

Misdemeanors involving dishonesty, theft, or fraud are usually disqualifying events. Other issues will be considered on a case by case basis. The best you can do is be sure to list the charge down on the commercial application, and explain the circumstances the best you can. Since these cases are looked at on a case to case basis, you never know what the company or insurance carrier, especially, will determine. Here is a link to one of our reports detailing the driver qualifications that most companies go by when employing a driver.....good luck

Having first started driving a semi in 1979, and being in and out of trucking until now (01-04-09), I can see this article being written early last year...

However, since then, the big three auto giants had to beg congress for loans, unemplyment here in wisconsin is at 9%, and the truck company that I worked for was just bought out by another truck company from chicago...The first day of the new ownership, the new company laid off 10 drivers...they came up with some lame excuse for doing so...So here I am at 55 without a driving job, and some trucking companies like ABF have closed down thier terminals in Janesville, and others like the merger of Yellow, and Roadway are laying off drivers...So you see, just because we are truckers, doesn't guarentee a job...The recession is trully here, (witnessed that first hand from the customers that were on my route not shipping as much as they did, and actually laying of employee's) and ect...Even if you do everything right, you can still be laid off, as in my case....

I will try to get back into trucking, but right now alot of drivers are being laid off..so it will be harder...

But great article.

I recently had a similar experience when I posted to a Trucking Forum for Women. Words like "Girlie" & "Radical Feminist" were thrown at me for trying to share with others what obstacles may lie in wait as they embark into Trucking.
One key indicator that I should persist though was my post was get 700+ reads but only 2 main people responding.
That told me I was hitting questions that needed answers NOW & those 700 didn't want their head chewed off like mine was being done.
Its importent to me people see that this is exactly the sort of reception that awaits them for their own peeps.
I deeply appreciate Allen & Donna for letting me share my story
