I am 66 and at this age most people in their 60’s are pulling in, stopping, and hanging up their work field., after I retired from automotive sales for many years, I decided to change into bus driving, I was told that in the state of Georgia one needed a complete class A before even considering driving a school bus. I took the entrance exam at the ALTIMAHA TECH in Baxley, took 5 different state test for my permit, and am now attending the institute for my class A license, I really am training to drive a 18 wheeler, what are my chanches of obtaining a job at my age, and being a new graduate? please advise, as I am a woman, a grandmother of 5, wife of one for 46 years, (husband drives dump truck here) and he has a class B. We moved down from Vermont one year ago and want to stay here in Jesup Georgia. , but need to work. thanks.

Hi Ellie: I know drivers in their late 70’s and older who are still out there on the road……As far as rules go, as long as you pass all tests and exams, you are qualified to drive 18 wheelers or whatever…….You may have some obstacles with getting hired by some carriers, but I believe a company will be willing to hire you….66 is still considered “young” in this day and age….you may have knock on a few doors, and maybe not! All in all…..I believe you have a good chance being hired…..Let me know how it works out and Good Luck !
