Often we receive questions through email that we cannot answer because the sender’s email “fails”. This is the case in the following question I just received, so I thought I would post it here and provide the answer…

My answer : (I hope you find this)…sorry, but your email did not work…..
Hi XXXX:
Since you are on the loading docks, you would be referring to the
International Code Council – (ICC)- they are the council that oversees the
design, safety, etc., of loading docks, making sure the company is in
compliance with their standards. An example of this is what you refer to
as “ICC Bar.” The “bar” is the mechanical holding device that “hooks” to
a trailer when it is at the dock. The “bar” can also be the wheel
chock…any device to prevent the truck/trailer from moving while it is at
the dock, as long as it meets the ICC standards.
Thanks for asking,
Allen Smith

Well close? Maybe. ICC in “ICC Bar” stands for Interstate Commerce Commission. It was a regulatory body in the United States created by the Interstate Commerce Act of 1887, which was signed into law by President Grover Cleveland. The agency was abolished in 1995, and the agency’s remaining functions were transferred to the Surface Transportation Board. Source: wikipedia and 25 years as a truck driver.
Not in this case….ICC is for International Code Council. The International Code Council, a membership association dedicated to building safety and fire prevention, develops the codes used to construct commercial buildings.
