Washington (AP) – The Obama administration is wanting to re-develop a program that will allow Mexico’s trucks full access to the U.S. highways.

Debbie Mesloh, a spokeswoman for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, said Obama has told the office to work with Congress, the Transportation and State Departments and Mexican officials.  The administration wants to create “a new trucking project that will meet the legitimate concerns” of Congress and U.S. commitments under the North American Free Trade Agreement.

The Mexican government has protested the previous trucks ban.  Ricardo Alday, embassy spokesman, said “Mexico still believes that the United States’ noncompliance on this issue is a violation of the North American Free Trade Agreement” although the Mexican government prohibits U.S. trucks from driving far distances into Mexico.

So what do you think, drivers?  I would love to hear your thoughts on this one!
