It’s no secret to everyone, drivers have been anticipating a lot of change and rumors of change within the trucking industry.

First there is the infamous CSA 2010, the description and explanation of which can alter depending upon which website you land on.  Even the FMCSA website has changed a few things since it first released the plans for implementing the new laws in 2010.

The most recent notification by FMCSA is that there will be a delay in the implementation of CSA 2010 in order to incorporate “valuable feedback” which they have received from many. (rolled back to Nov 30th instead of July  ) Last month we had a lengthy phone meeting with  4 members of the FMCSA in which Candice Tolliver of the Dept. of Transportation’s office of public affairs arranged.

During that meeting we shared many of the concerns we had for the drivers, including the fact that many times drivers  cannot be responsible for the way a shipment is loaded, or the way equipment is maintained, and to hold a driver responsible for such  ( not to mention receiving points of violation) did not appear to be fair or appropriate.  Also mentioned to them was the fact that newly acquired CDL drivers would have an unfair advantage over veteran drivers as they will come on board with a  “clean slate” since new drivers wouldn’t have any  aquired data in the system for the required 3 year look back of roadside inspections or DOT recordable accidents.

We brought up many other concerns with the FMCSA  during that meeting, plus written communication of 12 other questions and concerns.  Ms Tolliver has advised us that they will be addressing and replying to our additional concerns  in a write up shortly and will be sending it back to us. We will be posting their reply here on the blog.

Now, the “Driver Shortage” So what’s this all about? How many times have we heard this?  Is there really a driver shortage?  If there’s a driver shortage, why are so many drivers complaining about slow freight and low miles?  Why are the companies continually lowering the drivers CPM?  I had one driver write me today expressing he just can’t make it on 19/cpm !!!!  That’s unheard of!

Next, along with the media cry of “driver shortage” will come the anticipated influx of new drivers.  After all, if there’s a driver shortage, we better hurry up and get those schools pumping out more drivers.  Here’s the irony of it all.  In a time when so much work and effort is being placed into CSA 2010, ensuring the utmost safety for the highways, we’re going to be putting thousands of new inexperienced  drivers on the road. How safe is that? Imagine thousands of people with 3 weeks of training and a couple of months with a company trainer driving on the highways.

Join us Thursday  April 15th on Blog Talk Radio, Truth About Trucking “Live” as we address these and other issues that are starting to unravel which are being widely  distributed by the media about the trucking industry.

We’ll discuss the truth behind the truck “driver shortage”, the cause and effect associated with the projected influx of CDL Training and new driver company training, and of course CSA 2010 and the effects towards drivers.

We urge you to join in with your questions and comments.

Thousands of truckers in the United States lost their jobs in 2009.   With the economy not getting any better and nothing on the horizon to suggest that it will, are American truckers being set up for employment termination for 2010?   Is the proposed program, CSA2010 and the truck driver’s DAC Report combining forces to weed out thousands of experienced, higher paid drivers to bring in new drivers at a much lower pay scale?  Are we preparing for an influx of new foreign drivers into the United States market by opening the Mexican border which would allow the trucking companies to move our freight at a much lower pay rate for drivers?   Is this an economic attack against American drivers?   Many believe that it is.   One trucking company has stated that FMCSA expects 175,000 driver jobs will be lost when CSA2010 is implemented.

Working very quietly in the background, it has been reported that several trucking companies are having safety meetings telling some drivers that the FMCSA is planning to do a three year background check on all truck drivers DAC Report, state and company records.   Based on the information found, the driver will be given a point rating.   Drivers found to have three or more violations of any kind will be given an unfair rating and the trucking company will be forced to terminate the driver from their employment.   A point can be assessed against the driver in relation to the proposed BMI (body mass index) of the driver and the other related point scale within the new CSA2010 regulations.  It is our understanding that this data collection against American truckers will be complete by July, 2010.   Furthermore, the large majority of this data will be provided by DAC Services, the corrupt agency which allows false information to remain on drivers reports.

Several months ago I mentioned this scenario to Donna, but never publicly announced it.  Now, I am hearing the same concerns from others within the industry: “Is DAC Services and CSA2010 working together to force experienced, hire paid drivers out . . . to bring in drivers that can be paid at a lower rate?”

Will the Government now hold drivers responsible for operating poorly maintained company equipment?   Will drivers be assessed violation points if their body weight is more than what the Government says it should be?   Is the FMCSA going to take the word of HireRight DAC Trucking Services?

Is this a Governmental attack against American truck drivers to make room for lower paid, foreign drivers?

What do you believe is going on with CSA2010 and the DAC services?

Be sure to tune in to Truth About Trucking “LIVE” talk radio, Thursday, January 21st, 2010 at 7 PM EST for our Trucking Topics Open Discussion.

With the near destruction of the U. S. manufacturing industry and auto dealers going out of business on a near daily basis, the trucking industry is one of the largest sector of industry on the planet.  Is this a way to ensure its survival?

Would the U. S. Government really do such a thing, or is this another “conspiracy theory?”

Blog talk radio’s:  Truth About Trucking “LIVE” remembered aviation transportation’s pioneer, Amelia Earhart, this evening on their talk radio program.  July 2nd, 2009 will be 72 years since Amelia Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, disappeared over the Pacific ocean while attempting to fly around the world.

Recognizing Amelia for her accomplishments and her stance for women’s rights, the show also included a two minute speech she made in 1935 which became known as the “Women in Aviation” Speech, where she proclaimed her amazement at the ability to be able to fly at a whopping 200 MPH.

What would she think today, of the fact that we have flown at Mach 9.6 – nearly 7000 MPH?   Nasa’s Hypersonic X43A Scramjet hit the mark back in 2004:

Nasa X43A Scram Jet

After 72 years, the question still remains:  Whatever happened to Amelia Earhart?

Is NAFTA Working or Not?

NAFTAWith lost U. S. jobs estimated as high as 25 million and companies and corporations moving to Mexico and Canada, is NAFTA working as it was promised to do so?  When President George W. Bush signed the NAFTA agreement on December 17th, 1992 he stated that “NAFTA would be a catalyst for economic growth in the three countries.”

Yet, many of the other two countries Governmental offices and officials claim that NAFTA has, in fact, hurt their economical growth as well.

Mr. Obama vowed to reopen NAFTA and insure “labor, environmental and safety standards that are enforced.“   Now, it appears the decision has been made to not re-negotiate NAFTA policies and to leave it as is.
