Jason’s Law Remains one of Trucking’s Most Important Issues
Posted by Allen Smith in Politics, Safety, trucking, trucking life on January 19th, 2010
Never in my life have I seen so much interest from trucking and non-trucking individuals, companies and organizations focusing on issues concerning the overall state of the U. S. ground transportation industry, than what I’m seeing at present. As the largest sector of industry in the world, it is no wonder. Never before has the saying ever been more true: “Without Trucks … America Stops!”
At nearly every turn, there seems to be an issue facing the trucking industry today that will certainly determine the future of this massive industry that employs hundreds of millions of American workers. I was recently asked my opinion on what I considered to be the top issues facing the trucking industry in 2010. After a little thought, I came up with my 2010 Top Trucking Issues list:
- Economy
- Government Regulations
- Fuel Cost
- Highway Infrastructure
- Hours of Service
- Environmental issues
- Truck Size and Weight
- Border Opening
I’m sure I could come up with a few more if I set my mind to it. With so many issues facing the industry and the compounded uncertainty of the economy, it is easy to forget an important issue here and there . . . one which must not be ignored or forgotten is the serious factor that remains among our nation’s drivers: the need for establishing safe and secure parking for America’s truck drivers.
Jason’s Law, Bill H. R. 2156, will do just that. A petition is defined as: “A formal written document requesting a right or benefit from a person or group in authority.”
A signed petition shows those in authority that the specific request is needed, wanted and supported by all those who have affixed their signatures to the document. Those signatures are the telling signs that there is “power” behind the proposed cause. Because the more signatures received only adds to the just cause of the requested right or benefit, we need to continue showing our support for Jason’s Law by continuing the petition signing.
At present, 8,978 signatures of support have been received. Tell your friends . . . spread the word . . . keep the support coming. It will only further add to the showing of support by “We the People” to those who have the authority to make it happen.
“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government – lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.”

Fight for Tony The Tiger Freedom Continues
Posted by Allen Smith in Politics, trucking on January 14th, 2010
Following up on our previous post, Truck Stop fights to keep Tony the Tiger, the Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete, Louisiana won its battle to keep Tony the Tiger as its main attraction, as Iberville Parish Council voted 11-1 in favor of truck stop owner, Michael Sandlin. Councilman Mitchel J. Oubre said he observed about 100 visitors to Tony’s habitat in about 45 minutes, while councilman Matt Jewell added that the tuck stop employs 40 to 70 workers who could lose their jobs if customers stopped visiting the truck stop to see the famous and exotic Siberian-Bengal tiger. Thus, a few of the main reasons the council voted in favor of the owner.
Activists claim that this violates animal rights regulations, of which, Sandlin has been written up for sixteen times by the U. S. Department of Agriculture. Dangers to the 550 pound animal includes:
- Constant inhalation of diesel fumes
- Living among its own waste
- Flashing lights in its face by cameras
- Aggravation by sight-seers crowding around the cage
- Living alone with no interaction of animals of its kind (Since 2003)
Furthermore, a 1993 Parish Ordinance prohibits an individual from keeping any “wild, exotic, vicious animal or reptile for display or for exhibition purposes.” Councilman Edwin “Ed” Reeves Jr. cast the only single dissenting vote, claiming that Tony “deserves a better environment than the one he has been given at the truck stop.” It is also noted by experts that these large cats experience physical damages by being kept in cages, unable to walk their average 400 miles per day as done in the wild. Also, tigers and other wild cats that are kept in cages will resort to self mutilation.
I have visited this truck stop many times while I ran over the road and never saw 100 visitors within 45 minutes, so I would call that statement a bit of a “stretch.” Tiger Truck Stop always had great food and good people to chat with, but I always felt disheartened by these beautiful animals caged up as they were, and as Tony still is.
Sandlin counters with, “He’s a pet, and at the truck stop, Tony’s with the only family he has ever known.” The fight to free the massive animal continues:
Free Tony the Tiger is one fight to set the animal in a proper environmental setting. They can also be found on the massive social media network, Twitter.
Tiger World News is another embattled in the fight for Tony’s freedom. They currently offer a petition to ask the council to enforce their own codes about the keeping of Tony the Tiger by the truck stop:

Big Cat Rescue of Tampa, Florida continues to offer the correct environmental setting for Tony, but Sandlin has stated: “They just want to steal my tiger” and that they have “Never offered to help raise money to improve Tony’s habitat.”
BIG CAT RESCUE
The battle for Tony’s freedom has been going on for years and it appears it will continue. Tiger Truck Stop offers some of the best home cooking around and whenever I visited, just good, friendly “folks.” As for this issue, I’ll be standing on the side lines watching to see how it unfolds in the future. In the meantime, freedom for Tony will have to wait.

Stop False DAC Reports Petition Nearing 1,000 Signatures
Posted by Allen Smith in dac report on January 14th, 2010
Will more professional truck drivers continue to come together and work to end the false reporting by trucking companies against drivers DAC reports? Our Stop False DAC Reporting petition is nearing 1,000 signatures, but many more are needed in order to show a strong and viable case against this segment of corruption in the trucking industry. This petition is one reason, I believe, that USIS removed itself from DAC Services, and was taken up by HireRight DAC Trucking Solutions.
Previous false information placed on a driver’s DAC report by the former USIS/DAC Services, could even be more difficult to have removed because now, HireRight can simply say that they are not the company who placed such information on the report . . . that it was done by USIS/DAC, which is no longer associated with the services. An interesting move as the DAC Petition grows in support? Furthermore, the complaints by drivers continue:
- DAC has completely ruined my Driving career. My DOT/MVR/DMV record mean nothing! to anyone in Trucking. Compared to the lying slander of this reporting agency! My understanding is of the companies that use this agency (of which is 90% of them) when checking a Drivers back ground Dac is the first check. They look” No further…if there is something Negative there, that’s it! No one compares it to local/state/federal records. Or even ask or listen to the Driver who’s career/livelihood is on the line! Nowhere” in America, is this allowed! Slander/defamation/predigest should never” be tolerated! however; this Dac agency seems to be a exception to the rule! They destroy lives, and could care less! Trucking companies use this agency to pay back Drivers that won’t put up with theie abuse! when you quit” a company…they pay you back” through this Dac reporting agency.
- I’m a victim of this, after almost 11 yrs of driving got blacked balled by 2 companies and now with disconnection notices and an eviction notice I’m unable to get a driving job, a father of 2 young kids my life is ruined, now at 45yrs of aged I’m suppose to start over again, thanks U S Government, thanks for the American dream.
- I agree. I am a victim of dac reports. I’ve been a driver for 10 years nowand it’s impossible to get dac to do anything for the drivers. They gave me a real hard time getting copies, they also had a false report from a company that I had left years ago. The only thing I was allowed to do is write a statement, but most companies are going to believe the company over a driver. I want to end Dac.
- I hope something can be done. I’ve been out work for two years now, because no trucking company would hire me. I have some false report on my DAC, and trying get information on how can I get this fixed. It is a shame how companies don’t care. I am a good driver, never had a accident, and pretty sure there are drivers out there like me that are having the same frustration not able to get a decent job as a professional driver. I just hope something can be done soon. I would give all my support and help to fight this abuse against my fellow drivers. I am here to sign this petition and take action to try to help fix this problem we are having. You have all my support, and God bless you.
Help to spread the word about the DAC petition. We will be posting a PDF file soon that you can print and fill out and submit to your area U.S. State Attorney’s office in order to move forward with this issue. I will also be updating our YouTube DAC video ASAP . . .
Appreciate everyone’s help . . .

DAC Petition hits 100+ Signatures – More Needed
Posted by Allen Smith in Politics, trucking, trucking companies on July 6th, 2009
Our petition to STOP False DAC Reporting has hit the 100+ signature mark. We appreciate all the support we have received thus far, but we are needing many more in order to build the strength behind the proposal to be submitted to Congress.
Consider emailing all your friends, relatives, etc., and ask for their support for this very important issue. We are receiving many emails daily from professional drivers, students just getting started in their driving careers … sharing their experiences concerning the abuse and false claims being placed on their DAC report by trucking companies.
DAC Services, Tulsa, Oklahoma – is now pulling more scams on drivers. I have recently received several emails from drivers who have requested their (once per year) free copy of their DAC report, and they never received it. When they called DAC Services, they were told that it was mailed and if they did not receive it, then it was not their fault, and if they wanted another one, they would have to pay the required $9.50
Let’s work to bring this abuse and these false claims to a stop. Drivers keep America moving and these people just do not care.
We are off to a great start . . . keep the signatures coming! Let all your friends know . . .
Thanks to all . . .

Petition to Stop False DAC Reporting
Posted by Allen Smith in Politics, trucking, trucking companies on July 2nd, 2009
We are preparing to submit a letter of proposal to the appropriate Senator(s) and Representatives of Congress concerning the false reports and accusations being placed on truck drivers’ DAC reports by the trucking companies who abuse this service.
The DAC Report has long been an avenue in which many trucking companies utilize in order to falsely accuse a driver for incidents or acts that never occurred. Countless professional drivers have experienced their careers ruined by the abusive system, even though the agency is regulated by The Fair Credit Reporting Act.
We are needing your help to assist in stopping false claims upon drivers and the change needed in order to bring about fair and justified reporting services as described per Federal law. We are asking for your signature to our petition to stop false DAC reporting.
Your signature is greatly appreciated and any comments you would like to add, will only strengthen our cause when the proposal is submitted.
Thanks for your support . . . together, we can STOP the abuse of false accusations on the truck drivers’ DAC.
Forms to receive your DAC report and to report a false claim . . .
