I have to say that I am pretty annoyed with a lot of folks out there who are continually trying to pretend that everything is “peachy keen” within the trucking industry. It appears that their goal is to create a rosie picture in order to get more people to join an industry that , well, ” just isn’t for everyone.”

I watch Allen spend hours online researching all the “stuff” that goes on in trucking in order to alert folks and thus make things better for everyone. I couldn’t believe an e-mail he received from another website.  I won’t mention a name or the site, but it pretty much said in so many words, ” don’t make such a grim picture out of the trucking industry… you can sell more products by  talking about more of the positive aspects of trucking.”

Do you believe that?  Sell more products!   So, in other words, we should paint an unrealistic picture, get more folks to look into trucking, so we can then sell them a bunch of stuff about trucking, right? If that’s the case then we’d be no better than the recruiters and  trucking companies that promise them the moon and stars…only to allow them to then get a good glimpse of the 128% turnover rate… and the reality of it all…..YUK!

No, I’d rather someone tell me the truth about something, and then give me the amunition to fight them head on and be successful. Yeah, you may lose some who don’t want to fight, but chances are those are the folks who would have ended up quitting after a few months anyway…after losing a few thousand dollars in CDL  training costs and  lots of lost time and heatache! Is it worth it to disillusion people and make them go through all that …just to sell a product to them?  I don’t think so!

The reality is this: If you want to get into trucking you can make it, but you need to be aware of the “dirty little secrets” that go on so YOU CAN MAKE IT. That’s why Allen wrote “The Truth About Trucking “ back in 2000 and  recent follow up books… not to scare people out of trucking, but rather  to reveal the red flags so they can be successful in trucking.

Recently we have had a courageous women post to this blog and expose many of the industry “secrets”, that quite frankly, even shocked Allen.  She has been posting on other blogs also and  should be commended for her efforts. She does all this while driving OTR. Here is an example of a fighter! SHE LOVES OTR TRUCKING and is not going to give it up, but rather is willing to fight and make it better for both men and women.  A women after our own hearts.

I encourage you to read her posts. So, get a cup of coffee and get comfy, ’cause there’s a lot of insightful reading!

Allen and I have the honor to communicate with so many people every day. Although we haven’t met the majority of them, I feel a comradery between us and them just the same. Trucking can be a lonely lifestyle in itself, but our websites, truthabouttrucking.com and askthetrucker.com, have introduced us to some of the finest human beings around. We receive letters, gifts, prayers, and friendship from many of our loyal subscribers.

Recently I started communicating by e-mail with a woman by the name of Desiree. Her e-mails describing her life as a truck driver were so detailed and graphic, I felt like I was living the experience right along with her.  Her stories were those of courage and integrity and Allen even used one of them in his new version of “The Truth About Trucking 4th edition.

I  invited Desiree to post some of her stories here, and I hope all of you find them as intriguing, entertaining and fascinating as I did. These stories represent  similar experiences that so many other woman truck drivers have lived.

Some of her stories can definitely give you some insight on how trucking companies “value” women truckers.

When I asked her to how she would like to share some of her stories here on our blog, she answered with this reply,

“Well I’d like to start, by starting from the very beginning and navigating my way thru the trucking
school scam
and thru the individuals that I teamed with and was trained by, because there
are already tons of funny stories… but great learning experiences. From weight
management to hygiene I’ve been collecting and fine tuning this lifestyle to make it
work
.”

Okay, Thanks Desiree. It’s all yours now!

Today we released the 4th edition of “The Truth About Trucking” book for trucking students, truckdrivers and trucking career seekers. Most people who know me ( Allen) as telling the truth…no matter how unpleasant that may be. I don’t candy coat things and I sure don’t want to give false promises…BUT…when you are equipped with the truth, only then can you expect to have a chance at being successful.

Today I released “The Truth About Trucking” with the hope to educate and inform as many students and new drivers as possible….equipping them with as many facts, info and knowledge I could find useful and necessary so they may achieve their trucking goals. It’s taken a few months to gather  the added information, but I feel the information given will provide the tools for a successful trucking career to anyone who is truly serious about having one.  I believe the extra 5  chapters will benefit everyone.  As always, all past clients receive the revision and it’s sent automatically to their e-mail.

Here is the new Table of Contents to explore. I hope all those who have received the new edition are already seeing the benefits.

We would appreciate all comments, input and opinions….and most of all…your success stories.

To Your Success!

Allen

PS Noticed a review on TruckerToTrucker Website. This was written before the revised edition.
